At the start of a lovely Autumn day we decided to meet for coffee in Vamos, after my first shift on the school bus.
The plateia was peaceful and traffic free
A few people collecting bread and water
All quiet
We sat in 'Mackies' and ordered a frappe and a Greek coffee. We did not require the famous "Mackies Meatballs" for breakfast.
Mackie makes his Greek coffee the old way over a low heat rather than heating it with steam so it has a good taste
Opposite the cafe, Georgias store and the Pharmacy were already open.
A van selling tools and household implements stopped to show his wares in the plateia - but it was too quiet!
An elderly lady, having completed her shopping makes her way home
Fred enjoying the peace and quiet, watching the village come to life ( Yes with a raki too!)
A typical view in Vamos - a car stopped in the middle of the road! ( the picture does not show the cars and bus heading down the hill towards it!)
The lion looks out to the mountains
Years ago it had a light. When Christos was a little boy, and his father worked out of an office opposite, he loved to look at the lion.
It was placed there many years ago, to always look to the mountains….
I have been here and cannot wait to return and walk around the area, steeped in history. book to buy, walks around vamos.
ReplyDeleteWe are going to move soon to a nearby small village and definitely will visit Vamos to check on Μακης greek coffee as well as his famous meatballs!
