Georgia's

A visit to "Georgia's" is one of the remaining traditional experiences of Crete.

Having lived in the village all her life she is still, in her late 80's, opening up her little taverna every day summer and winter

The views are amazing

Overlooking Georgioupolis

During the second world war Georgia and her mother hid a British soldier in a cave nearby, risking their lives to take him food and water

Later, Georgia and her husband Christos, ran the very successful and busy taverna for many years

For the past 30 years or so Georgia has been running the taverna in Argyroumouri on her own. Now it is rather run and the 'facilities' are probably best not mentioned! The taverna is best enjoyed outside where there are plenty of tables under the mulberry trees to take advantage of the wonderful views.

You will still be assured of a warm welcome from Georgia.

I Remember my first Christmas in Crete when I went to visit Georgia with a box of biscuits as a present. She rushed around and I left with her present to me of a couple of oranges, onions and paximadi!

On a warm sunny day why not stop for a coffee or a cold drink and enjoy the views? It is part of the rich diversity of life here on Crete and well worth a visit while it is still here.

  2. Wow, this brings back memories. Popped in here once or twice when I first moved to Crete and lived in Likotnara.
