Matala Unplugged

Matala in October
After visiting Matala during the festival, it is refreshing to visit again towards the end of the season. Time to wander around and enjoy the village, time to see the murals and paintings hidden by the vast amount of people who were here to enjoy the music!

Some shops and tavernas still open but many closed for the season already

The "Beetle" is still here

A cornucopia of colour abounds

This welcome was for George Harrison - though it is not clear if he ever visited!

There were some young Greek people having a picnic in a cave whilst selling jewellery

The "caves" where the hippies - including Joni Mitchell lived- Actually they were tombs

George the fisherman

Paintings on the roads - worn after a summer of feet!

Fishing boats at rest

Evenings look to be lively still

Interesting instruments

Time to relax without the crush of humanity

The "Square stage"

Refreshments as we watch the world go by

Village life goes on, the local church holds the usual services, weddings, baptisms and outside are notices of funerals and memorials.

One way to decorate your utility room on the roof!
