After a couple of months break here we are again with the cornucopia of places and events here in the wonderful island of Crete.
April 23rd is St Georges day. Many of you will already know about the blessing of the sheep up in Asi Gonia, but this tradition also takes place in the small hamlet of Argyromouri, situated overlooking the bay of Georgioupolis.
The sheep gather
The villagers gather
Bells ring
Thrice around the church
Time for the blessing
Holy water is sprinkled with the use of a bunch of basil
The priest turns his back and throws the sheep bell and collar - the sheep it lands on wears the bell for the next year
The sheep leave their pen by passing under the priest's stole
