Kourambiedes
Now with Christmas approaching and preparations beginning, amongst making your mince pies don't forget to try this traditional Greek Christmas treat. Kourambiedes are Almondy, buttery, crumbly and delicious!
550 gr sieved all purpose flour 1 tsp baking powder250 gr roughly chopped skinless almonds, slightly roasted -Toss in a dry frying pan for a few minutes till toasty260 gr Butter 100 gr sugar1 pinch powdered vanilla30 gr Metaxa RosewaterIcing sugar
- Beat together the sugar, vanilla and Metaxa begin beating at a slow speed and gradually increase until the mixture is well mixed and fluffy
- Lower the speed and add the almonds
- Lastly, slowly add the flour and baking powder until well mixed
- Flour a smooth surface and place the dough on top of it
- Make small rounds,- size of a walnut or you can gently feel out and make star and moon shapes
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for 30 mins
- Remove from the oven, cool and sprinkle them with rosewater
- Immediately after drench with icing sugar.
- Store in an airtight box
