Visitors

Love it or hate it the Channel 4 series "A Place in Greece" became a smash hit and is still playing daily on tv now. - more of that on another post. Brian and Andrew - two of the protagonists recently visited Crete for a relaxing holiday. One evening we spent relaxing in Georgioupolis.

We decided to eat at the "Sunlight" taverna on the sea front. The sun was setting as we arrived.

They discussed the merits of different "Raki" with Fred - the resident "raki tester"

The taverna overlooks the seafront.
We decided to share several plates of meze and two main dishes between the four of us.

We started with delicious courgette fritters, Myzithra ( a local cream cheese) pies, meatballs, tzatsiki, garlic bread and salad. washed down with local white wine or beer.

A melt in the mouth dish of Kleftiko ( a slow cooked lamb dish)

Chicken in wine sauce served with vegetables

Of course we had to sample the potatoes fried in olive oil

As we were eating the riding school trotted by at the end of their evening hack

A creamy complementary dessert arrived

Along with some Honey raki

We finished our evening with a trip to the "Cotton Club" a couple of doors away and enjoyed Margaritas

And in my case my new favourite,  an Espresso Martini.

For fans of "A Place in Greece," Brian and Andrew are writing an update on their lives and a retrospective that I will upload soon.

Sunlight review. (Cotton club will have a separate review shortly)

Prices, Very reasonable, good quality and value for money

"Star ratings"- on the "Guzunder" scale 8.5.
- Clean, modern, doors have locks, toilet seats present, paper and paper towels available.

Complementary honey raki, and dessert at the end of the meal

Raki on Richter scale 7. Honey raki, smooth and sweet.

Would we return? Yes, certainly.

  1. One of my favourite eating places, too. Maiki does the best fried sardine plate ever!

  2. Saw the first series recently on Youtube, wonder what happened to the people who were going to live downstairs, Peter and Lesley.
