A special sweet "Chimneys"

Have you ever eaten a "chimney"?
Well we have.
We came across this snack for the first time during the Matala festival where there was a kiosk making this speciality.

What are they?

A type of sweet yeast dough is rolled around a wooden tube and then cooked like a gyros

It is dipped in flavourings of your choice - the traditional is sugar and cinnamon

It was fascinating to watch them being made

The favourite ones seemed to be chocolate and praline or "Bueno" and toppings - such as hundreds and thousands or chocolate vermicelli

They are rather filling!

Chocolate being spread on the cooked dough - totally calorie free of course ...ahem...

These are originally a treat from Hungary but there is a shop in Athens and they travel to festivals, food fairs etc so look out for them!

They also have a Facebook page so you can keep up with where they are if you want to try it!
You will see they are also making ice cream filled pastries and savoury ones - such as mac and cheese!
