A little corner of Almyrida

Almyrida is busy with tavernas, water sports, beaches and cafes, but you don't even have to go two minutes from the busy spots to find a quiet refuge.

As I have been showing you the area around Almyrida recently, here are a few more photos from a little quiet spot. "Hiding in plain sight" as they say.

Karga island. This is  a lovely spot for bird watching, It also has Phoenician and Roman remains and tunnels from the second world war.

Sundowners by the Seashore

It had been, unusually for Crete in August, a grey overcast day threatening rain, but warm!
We decided to take a run out and sit by the seashore for a while.

we enjoyed a drink as the sun went down

The sea was lively

Small breakers rolling in

As the sun set they got livelier!

Where we were sitting the sea started to roll in under the balcony

A slightly strange feeling

The spray was flying up and there were two surfers trying out the waves in the dim light.

The lights on the Plaka peninsula lit up as it grew darker

The sea grew wilder

Out to sea we could see lights bobbing in the waves. Buoys or fishing boats? We couldn't tell!

Crete, Europe's Secret Caribbean

Most people dislike long haul flights (not to mention the price of them) and settle for holidays in Europe. Many of us would like to visit the Caribbean. Why travel that far when we have the Island of Crete?
Lets take a look

Turquoise seas

Clear Lagoons

Sandy beaches

Quiet waters

Blue skies and sea

Fishing

Time to think and meditate as the sun goes down

Blue on blue

Sparkling waters

Sunny days

Enjoy lunch in a quiet bay (Delphini, Plakias)

Elefonissi lagoon

Tamarisk trees

The contrast on a sunny day in spring with snow still on Mount Ida

Tone on tone

How about a Frappe and a Cranberry juice as you relax and enjoy the view?
