Coffee with Achilles

One of our favourite kafenions is in the little village of Kakodiki ( That means "Bad Justice" - sounds like a village from a western)

The outside is bright and cheery

There is a bus stop right there

Good coffee

A good place to chill

The inside has not changed in about 30 years

photos of old times on the wall

Achilles still makes the coffee

Inside is cool in the summer and warm in the winter with a wood stove

Yes, that is Achilles on the horse

A lovely way to pass an hour with a coffee - and the raki is good too!

Mrs Spiridoula's - A hidden Gem

Tucked away in the little village of Kakopetros is a tiny cafenion, untouched by time for 50 years!

Outside painted gourds hang jauntily - so you can't miss it!

Inside - except for the television- nothing has changed in years

We ordered Greek coffee and it came accompanied by Easter biscuits, cheese, olives and warm, freshly cooked cheese pies with honey

A jumble of old photographs on the wall

The coffee was pretty good

Lunch simmering on the wood burning stove

Just how long have those shelves been there?

Good Tsigoudia too

Views down across the gorge

Plants in bright spotty pots echo the colours of the gourds. Lovely place to relax with a coffee or a cold drink.

Not exactly expensive!

If you want to visit Mrs Spiridoula's it is about ten minutes out of Paleochora towards Hania.
